School Profile

THE SCHOOL: The Benjamin School currently enrolls more than 1,260 students in grades PK-12 who bring different backgrounds and talents to the school community.   Our 190 faculty and staff members lead our students in all aspects of school life.  Our current campus encompasses 15 beautiful palm-shaded acres, nestled between the ocean and the Intracoastal in the heart of North Palm Beach.  The new Upper School campus opened in August 2004.  This 50-acre campus, located on Central Boulevard (between Hood Road and Donald Ross Road) in Palm Beach Gardens, is a state-of-the-art facility which will allow us to better prepare our students for college and for life.  After renovations to the current classroom buildings, the present campus has become an even more favorable learning environment for grades PK-8.

ACCREDITATION:  The Benjamin School is accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools and the Florida Kindergarten Council.

PROGRAMS:  The Benjamin Lower School provides academic challenge in a supportive environment to help children reach their fullest potential.  During these formative years children develop both academically and personally, and the curriculum reflects this.  Each classroom has two full-time teachers for 20 students.  The program begins with pre-Kindergarten reading and writing readiness skills, math, music, and art.  The curriculum is enriched through classes in French, Latin and Greek Studies, Spanish, keyboarding, physical education (K-5), and band (4-5).  All grades participate in a Character Education Program and have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities and athletics.

The curriculum of the Middle School prepares students for transition to the Upper School.  Students begin with core courses including English, math, science, social studies, and French or Spanish.  Electives such as web design, creative writing, band, chorus, yearbook, art, newspaper, and literary magazine complement these core courses.  All students have an academic advisor who provides support, cultivates self-esteem, and fosters independence.  Students in the Middle School learn to think critically and take responsibility.  Our Skills for Growing course helps students with pre-teen and teenage issues, ranging from personal and social skills to time management.  A team teaching approach allows teachers to work together within the classroom to maximize students’ academic achievement.

The Upper School provides students with a strong college preparatory academic program that meets the entrance requirements of selective colleges throughout the country, as well as the opportunity to grow personally through diverse co-curricular activities.  In addition, students may enroll in elective courses such as Genetics, Expository Writing, Mythology, and Computer Graphics.  Honors and Advanced Placement courses are available in each department to provide additional challenge.  Small classes and individual attention enable students to progress at their own pace.  Faculty are involved with each student’s academic and personal growth.  All students have a faculty advisor with whom they meet twice weekly.  A well-established honor code provides an environment of trust and mutual respect that elicits the best from each student.  Students also have the opportunity to hone their leadership skills through participation in more than 25 clubs and activities, ranging from National Art Honor Society and Key Club to Drama and Debate.  Thirteen different sports are offered for students to meet the requirement of participating in one team sport each year.
