Admission Process

Applying to The Benjamin School

Families are encouraged to begin the application process as early as September and should complete the process no later than mid February for enrollment consideration for the 2007-08 school year. Admission decisions will be issued in mid April.  Applications received after mid February will be considered if spaces are available or vacancies occur.

All candidates will be asked to visit campus with their parents and tour, as well as have an interview with a member of our admission team.  There are several forms to be completed by the family, by teachers/administrators from the child’s current school (for children currently old enough to attend school), transcripts to secure and an individual evaluation or testing process to complete.  In addition, there is a $100 application fee, though the fee may be waived if it presents a financial hardship.

 The Evaluation Process

For Candidates Applying to Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten

Children applying to our Pre-Kindergarten must be 4 years old and to Kindergarten, 5 years old, by September 1 of the entrance year.  (Families with younger children are encouraged to call the Admission Office and have your name placed on our mailing list so we can help you begin the application process when the time comes.)

Candidates with applications on file in the Admission Office will be invited to attend one of two evaluation sessions to be held on Saturday morning, January 13th and 20th.  The candidates will engage in developmentally appropriate activities with our Pre-K and K teachers for purposes of assessment. Families will spend approximately 90 minutes at the school, meeting current families and touring, as well as having their child evaluated. Parents will be escorted to a separate room for refreshments while the evaluation is taking place.  The objective of the evaluation is to ascertain whether the child will be successful in, and benefit from, The Benjamin School curriculum.

For Candidates Applying to Grades 1- 4

Testing is administered on an individual basis and can be arranged by calling the Admission Office at 561-472-3451.

For Candidates Applying to Grades 5-12

Candidates for grades 5-12 must take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) which is administered nationally at independent schools. The Benjamin School will administer the ISEE on February 4 and April 1 of 2006.  Candidates should register for the test by mail, fax or phone.  Information about the ISEE is available online at http://www.erbtest.org/pages/ERB_ISEE.html.

In addition, candidates for grades 5-12, who have an application on file, are welcome to spend a day as a Benjamin School student and may call the Admission Office to set up a visit. Visitors shadow a host student in the grade they are applying for to get a complete sense of The Benjamin School experience.

Please call, or visit, The Benjamin School Admission Office.  We would be happy to answer any questions, arrange a campus tour, as well as provide you with an application packet.  Our number is: 561-472-3451.
