The Benjamin Community - Partners in Excellence Since Marshall and Nancy Benjamin first opened the doors of the North Palm Beach Private School in 1960, the basis of the Benjamin experience has been a dedication to nurturing a love of learning in our students and providing them with a firm educational foundation. Benjamin faculty, parents, grandparents, alumni and friends comprise the Benjamin community bound together with a shared goal of providing an educational experience that is stated in our motto: Nulli Secundus - Second to None! The
partnership between The Benjamin School and the Benjamin community
ensures that every Benjamin student has an opportunity to fully embrace
the Benjamin experience and is provided - enhanced educational programs,
dedicated faculty, state-of-the-art technology and a wide variety of
athletic and artistic co-curricular activities to interest every
student. This partnership engages all members of the Benjamin
community in the life of the school and is essential to advancing the
school’s mission of providing a challenging college preparatory
education to a diverse student body in a structured, nurturing community
environment. As a member of the Benjamin community, what is expected of me and how can I get involved and help? In order for Benjamin to be Second to None, we must have an active constituency in both the life of the school and the philanthropic support needed to maintain the quality of education provided. How can I help through personal involvement? Personal involvement in our student’s education is one component of a successful partnership. Personal involvement can take many forms such as being involved in the classroom when asked, attending events, volunteering for classroom projects or events when needed, sponsoring activities, or participating in school organizations like the Benjamin Parents Association. Each year, Benjamin has a series of fundraising events and activities called BASH (Building A Scholastic Heritage) that rely on volunteer support. How can I help through financial support? In addition to timely payment of tuition, we hope that you will contribute to the Benjamin Fund Annual Campaign to the extent that you are financially able and attend and support the various BASH events when possible. We also hope that you will participate in the periodic Capital Campaigns that are essential to providing new facilities and increased endowment. Why does Benjamin ask for contributions instead of simply increasing the tuition? As is the case with most independent schools, tuition does not cover the total cost of educating each student. Contributions to the Benjamin Fund and the net proceeds from BASH events bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of operating the school. Augmenting tuition through charitable gifts allows the school to keep tuition at a competitive rate and provides many important programs and improvements that are essential to our mission. When will I be asked to participate in The Benjamin Fund Annual Campaign and how will I be asked? In September, you will receive a written request for participation accompanying the Benjamin Fund brochure and a donor response form. The brochure describes in detail the areas that you can direct your gift and how your gift will impact the operating budget. Later in the school year, volunteers and development staff members make follow up phone calls to answer questions and encourage participation. What is The Benjamin Fund and how are the funds used? The Benjamin Fund is our annual giving campaign that runs in conjunction with the school’s fiscal year of July 1st - June 30th. It is designed to bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of operating the school through donations allocated to The Benjamin Fund Family of Annual Funds and the net proceeds from BASH. Donors can direct their tax-deductible gifts to the area(s) of greatest interest to them or their family as each area is central to the mission of TBS. What are the areas that gifts can be directed to in The Benjamin Fund? TBS has identified the following areas as central to the mission of the school and encourages you to direct your gift to the area(s) of most interest to you or your family: faculty, athletics, arts, technology, campus maintenance and enhancement, financial aid, alumni programs, endowment, BASH sponsorship and underwriting, the TBS Wish List, and the area of greatest need. What are the different events and special projects associated with BASH? BASH typically consists of the following annual events and special projects: our main fund raising event, the BASH Gala Dinner & Auction (4/22/06 at The Kravis Center); the Golf Tournament (9/30/2005 at Lost Tree); the BASH Variety Show, a school-wide performing arts spectacular (1/14/06 at Eissey Theatre); the BASH Fashion Luncheon (TBD); gift wrap sales; hospitality & marketing projects; BASH lunch programs (pizza, Chick-Fil-A and sub-sandwiches); Kids’ Korner, a holiday shopping program. How can I participate in BASH? You can participate in BASH in several ways: volunteering your time and talents for a BASH event or project; attending the various BASH events; donating an item or service for auction; making a sponsorship/underwriting gift; purchasing BASH auction item(s), advertisements in event programs, raffle tickets, gift-wrap items, BASH lunch program items and/or Kids’ Korner item(s); making a Call From The Heart donation at the BASH gala. What are the ways I can make a gift to Benjamin and is it tax-deductible? All gifts to The Benjamin School are tax-deductible based on the school’s 501(c)(3) charitable status. Cash is the most common and efficient way to make a gift. Gifts of appreciated securities have beneficial tax-implications. Visa, MasterCard and American Express credit cards are accepted for gifts and the TBS website can process secure transactions for these donations. Gifts can be pledged depending on the timeframe and designation. For more information about these and other ways of making a gift, please call the Development Office at (561) 472-3452. Who do I contact to make a gift, volunteer, or get more information? To make a gift, volunteer, or get more information, please contact Director of Development Kinch Cato or any member of the Development staff by phone at (561) 472-3452, via email at support-tbs@benjaminschool.com. |
