Lower School Art

Welcome to Lower School art! We are excited to begin our adventure in the Fine Arts Building. To provide a multi-sensory experience in the lower grades, our creative work space combines areas for individual work with centers that facilitate group activities and play. Centers provide time for reading, writing, reflecting, drawing in sketchbooks, building and easel painting. We take an exploratory approach to making art rather than providing an equation for students to follow.

As the students grow, creativity progresses as we take a multi-cultural approach to art history and the elements and principles of design. To enhance this process, artists in all grades employ a rich variety of media through traditional methods as well as contemporary techniques using multi-media and recycled objects. Our program provides an outlet for great self expression and discovery as students call upon their personal inspiration to make their art.

Throughout the year we will be exhibiting student art work on the web site, around our school campus and within the local community. This year we’ll be joining a school wide initiative to explore the theme of Our Florida Everglades & Sustainability. We look forward to learning from your little artists and exploring with them as they create vibrant individual works of art. So keep those colors flowing and be ready to start the year with a brilliant Benjamin brush stroke!
