THE SCHOOL:  The Benjamin School, founded in 1960, is an independent, coeducational, college preparatory school that enrolls approximately 1330 students in grades PK-12.  There are 420 students in the Upper School and 110 in the senior class.  Admission is highly competitive and open to all students without regard to race, religion or national origin.  Ninety-eight percent of the School’s graduates attend four-year colleges or universities. 

ACCREDITATION:  The Benjamin School is fully accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools.  Membership is held in the Southern and National Associations for College Admission Counseling, the National Association of Independent Schools, the Educational Records Bureau and the College Board.  The Benjamin School complies with the NACAC Statement of Principles of Good Practice, including disciplinary reporting.

MISSION STATEMENT: The Benjamin School provides a challenging college preparatory education to a diverse student body in a structured, nurturing community environment. The School motivates students to master the skills of learning, communicating, and evaluating choices; encourages them to grow intellectually, socially, morally, and physically to their fullest potential; and develops in them a coherent set of values that include love of learning, concern for others and a desire to serve society.

NOTE: An additional .33 is added to a student’s total quality points for each AP course being taken, but not for Honors.

AP COURSES:  English Language and Literature, Calculus AB and BC, Statistics, Chemistry, Physics C, U.S. and European History, French Language and Literature, Spanish Language and Literature, Computer Science, Studio Art, Economics, Biology, U.S. Government, Comparative Government

AP RESULTS:  Of the 372 examinations taken in 19 subjects in May 2006, 287 (77%) were qualifying scores of three or better:  74 (20%) were scores of five, 132 (35%) were scores of four and 81 (22%) were scores of three.

HONORS COURSES:  English 10, Algebra II/Trigonometry, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Biology,
Chemistry, Physics, French III, French IV, French V, Spanish III, Spanish IV, Spanish V, Advanced

HEAD OF SCHOOL LIST:  Students with a G.P.A. of 3.67 or higher
HONOR ROLL:  Students with a G.P.A. of 3.33 to 3.66

RANK IN CLASS:   BECAUSE OF THE SMALL SIZE AND HIGHLY ACADEMIC NATURE OF OUR
CLASSES, THE BENJAMIN SCHOOL DOES NOT RANK ITS STUDENTS. Please see our grade
distribution.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:  All students in grades 9-12 take a minimum of five academic
subjects per year and must meet the following requirements:

English                        4 Credits
Math                            4 Credits
Science                       3 Credits (to include:  Biology, Chemistry, and Physics)
Social Studies             3 Credits (to include:  Govt./Economics, World History, and American
 History)

Foreign Language     
3 Credits (to include:  3 consecutive units of a single foreign language)
Computer                   1/2 Credit
Fine Arts                     1 Credit
Electives                     3 1/2 Credits
Physical Education      2 Credits
TOTAL:  24 Credits
Seniors perform a two-week business or professional internship in an area of career interest prior
to graduation. Each senior must complete a minimum of forty hours of work during that time in order to
receive their diploma.
